What Is Active On-Demand AWD and How Does it Work?
Tailor-made for the family on the go, the 2020 Kia Telluride is available with an innovative Active On-Demand AWD System that will deliver unparalleled performance no matter what terrain or weather you face. The Kia Telluride Active On-Demand AWD System employs Torque Vectoring Cornering Control to redistribute torque to the front and rear axles to deliver impeccable handling in any scenario. With an electro-hydraulic AWD coupling and a multi-plate clutch plate, the innovative drivetrain constantly monitors torque distribution and driving conditions. When a drive mode is selected or loss of traction is detected, the all-wheel drive system will redistribute torque to improve traction and performance.
What Are the Kia Telluride AWD Drive Modes?
When equipped with Active On-Demand AWD, the Kia Telluride will provide drivers with four standard drive modes – Smart, Eco, Sport and Comfort – that will each fine-tune torque distribution and performance. Snow and AWD Lock terrain settings are available to further upgrade your drive when faced with extreme weather conditions. Eco and Smart drive modes will send 100% of the available torque to the front wheels to enhance fuel economy. The Comfort and Snow drive modes increase capability by sending 80% of torque to the front axle and 20% of torque to the rear axle. To amp up behind-the-wheel thrills, Sport mode sends 65% of torque to the front wheels and 35% of torque to the rear wheels. AWD Lock mode will distribute torque evenly to all four corners.
To select a drive mode, drivers use the drive mode dial located on the center console. Turn the drive mode dial clockwise to change drive modes and press the button at the center of the dial to select AWD Lock mode. When a specific mode is selected, the mode icon will illuminate on the center console and an AWD mode indicator light will appear on the LCD Multi-Information Display.
